In addition to his work as a performer, David is an active teacher, available for lessons both in-person in New York City and online for anywhere in the world. His teaching includes the areas of:
- Guitar (for all levels and a range of genres)
- Jazz Improvisation (for all instruments)
- Theory, Harmony, Rhythm
- Preparing for a music school audition
He is on faculty at the New York Jazz Workshop, Midori & Friends, and Blair Academy, holding a degree in Performance from Berklee College of Music. He is the author of the book "Intervallic Patterns for Improvisation" and currently working on his second book "Two-Part Improvisation for Guitar."
His philosophy towards education is the classic metaphor, “Give someone a fish, you feed them for a day; teach someone how to fish, you feed them for a lifetime.” He believes that an effective teacher influences the student to teach themself in the long-run as they continually develop their craft, working with the student to remove any barriers inhibiting them from their ideal form of musical expression.
